MEMORANDUM.
China Indemnity Advisory Committes.
The Chairman desires me to inform you that since the
last Meeting no definite questions have arisen which
appeared to justify or necessitate & further Meeting of
the available members of the Committes.
Unless events require it he does not propose to hold
a Meeting until after the holidays.
But he has directed me to draw up a short confidential
inemorandum for your inspection as to the present position
in regard to the Indemnity Fund.
Oving to existing circumstances in China, the Foreign
Office have decided not to press, during the present session,
for the introduction of the proposed Eill to amend the China
Indemnity (Application) Act 1925; ed especially as, in
view of the great obscurity as to the future in China, it
is considered that the drafting of the Bill should stend
over until the time comes when it may be less difficult to
formulate its terms and to obtain the general assent of
warliament.
It is considered, however, that this decision need
not effect the creation of the proposed Provisional Committee
•pro in China (geeted by the British members of the Committea
at the last informal meeting), which can be constituted
ithout any legislation here.
